Tier 1 Investor Visa: Financial documents

In order to qualify for an Investor Visa, you must have at least £2million in investment funds available. The Tier 1 Investor Visa category is designed to attract high net worth individuals who can make a substantial financial investment in the UK.

 

General Criteria

You must be able to demonstrate:

  • That you are over 18 years old
  • That the money belongs to you or your partner (unmarried or same sex)
  • Have opened a UK regulated bank account and be freely available to spend the capital (disposable)
  • You and any adult dependents will need to provide an overseas criminal record certificate for any country you have lived in for at least 12 months over a ten-year period.
  • You have a valid passport with at least one blank page for the visa

 

Source of Investor Funds

Where you have not held the funds for two consecutive years prior to the application, you must provide evidence of the source of the funds. The Home Office will contact the source of these funds to confirm the information you provide is correct.

 

The Home Office will consider the following sources of funds as acceptable providing evidence is given:

  • Gift
  • Deed of sale
  • Evidence from a business
  • Will
  • Divorce settlement
  • Financial award or winning

The money must be available in the UK and deposited in a UK bank account within a regulated financial institution. If the money is not already in the UK, you must provide confirmation the money will be transferred as soon as the application is approved.

 

You must provide evidence with your investor visa application that you have obtained and gained permission to transfer the funds freely to the UK. If you are subject to financial restrictions or sanctions, and you cannot provide additional proof from the relevant official body that you are authorised to transfer funds to the UK, your funds will not be deemed as freely transferable and your application will be refused.

 

UK Bank Account

You must have opened a UK bank account with a regulated bank for the purpose of investing at least £2million in the UK and obtained a letter issued by an authorised official of the bank on letter-headed paper, and contains the following information:

 

  • Dated within 3 months prior to the date of the application
  • Accurately states your name and account number
  • Evidence the bank is regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) for the purpose of accepting deposits
  • Confirmation the bank has carried out all necessary due diligence and “Know Your Customer” checks.

 

It is an important consideration, that although you may purchase a property for you and your family’s personal use during your stay, you are not permitted use any of the £2million investment funds to invest in property or engage in any property development activities.

 

However, you may invest in UK government bonds, and share or loan capital in active trading UK registered companies.
